Patrick McHenry has been honored by the National Taxpayers Union (NTU) today with the 2009 Taxpayers Friend Award. McHenry has been rated a “Friend of the Taxpayer” every year he has been in office.
According to NTU, their rankings are based on “actual votes–every vote that affects taxes, spending, and debt. Unlike most organizations that publish ratings, we refuse to play the ‘rating game’ of focusing on only a handful of congressional votes on selected issues. The NTU voting study is the fairest and most accurate guide available on congressional spending. It is a completely unbiased accounting of votes.”
“Since being elected, I’ve fought against wasteful spending in Washington and believe strongly that in order for businesses to help turn around our current economic crisis they need a stable tax environment that doesn’t punish them for creating jobs and earning a profit,” McHenry said upon learning he had been selected to receive the 2009 Taxpayers Friend Award.
McHenry went on to say that the current administration in Washington wants to spend more of taxpayers hard earned money in order to create new jobs, while he understands that providing a stable environment that allows businesses to thrive is the only way to revive our economy.
“While President Obama has pushed his failed jobs policy, business owners have held back from creating new jobs because they are scared of the President’s cap and trade taxes, the future burden they will have from Nancy Pelosi’s unpopular healthcare bill, and liberal Democrats insistence on raising taxes. The American people know that we need to return to common sense conservative values to turn our county around and I will continue to fight for them.”
McHenry has consistently been recognized by pro-taxpayer groups for his fiscally conservative voting record on behalf of his constituents.
