Thoughts on Today’s Health Care Summit
Dear Friends:
Today, President Obama will hold his summit on health care reform with members of both parties. Unfortunately, liberal Democrats have been meeting behind closed doors for weeks to negotiate a plan that will force through their unpopular health care takeover by using a heavy-handed parliamentary procedure in the Senate known as reconciliation.
In light of today’s events, I thought I would share with you an article I read in the Washington Post this morning that has Democrats admitting today’s summit is nothing more than political theater. After the TV cameras are turned off, Democrats will return to back room deal-making and arm-twisting to get their bill passed with Democrat votes (and ideas) only.
You can read the article here.
It is my hope that the President is interested in more than mere political theater, but I certainly have my doubts of his intentions. Last year, I held town hall meetings across Western North Carolina to hear your thoughts on the health care debate. Now more than ever, I’d like to know what you think about the current proposals and what actions you think need to be taken to bring down health care costs in order to make care more accessible for everyone.
Let me know what you think and as the debate continues in Washington, you can be sure that your voice is being heard.
God Bless,

Patrick
