VFW PAC Endorses McHenry

Oct 15

Cites commitment to veterans issues

Hickory, Oct 15, 2008 – The McHenry for Congress campaign today announced that the Veterans of Foreign Wars Political Action Committee has endorsed Patrick McHenry’s reelection to Congress. The group cited the Congressman’s “strong support for veterans, national security/defense, and military personnel issues.”

“I am honored to receive this seal of approval on my record of getting results for the veterans of Western North Carolina. Our work has only just begun,” said Congressman McHenry.

In only four years in Congress, Patrick McHenry has built an impressive record on veterans and military issues. He was honored by the North Carolina Chapters of the American Legion and Marine Corps League for his work in bringing the veterans’ health care clinic to Hickory. A second clinic for 10th District veterans was just recently announced.

Congressman McHenry helped pass the new GI Bill, which offers qualified veterans the equivalent of four years of college education at a state university. McHenry was an original co-sponsor of a version of G.I. Bill that included a provision allowing service members to transfer their benefits to their spouses and children. That provision, a priority for local veterans, was incorporated into the bill which passed the House.

Congressman McHenry recently voted for a 3.9% increase in pay for military personnel. He was recognized by the North Carolina National Guard for his help in funding the construction of a Field Maintenance Shop in Lenoir.

A group of 144 local veterans calling themselves Veterans for McHenry are working to reelect Patrick McHenry. Dale Punch, Past 5th Division Commander of the American Legion and head of Veterans for McHenry added, “Patrick has proven to be the most effective advocate the veterans of Western North Carolina could hope for.”
