National Taxpayers Union Backs McHenry

Joins Growing List of Groups and Individuals Who Reject

Hickory, Oct 31, 2008 – Hickory, NC – Today, the McHenry for Congress campaign announced the endorsement of the National Taxpayers Union (NTU), the nation’s largest grassroots taxpayer organization. The NTU Campaign Fund joins a growing list of individuals and organizations who support McHenry’s pro-growth, pro-jobs agenda.

“Voters seeking a Representative who is part of the solution to Washington’s woes rather than part of the problem should support Patrick McHenry,” the organization’s endorsement letter states. “Since his election in 2004, Congressman McHenry has stood by taxpayers and stood up to establishment politicians on Capitol Hill, including those in his own party.

“Patrick’s common sense, independence, and can-do attitude are exactly what this town needs to stop the flow of red ink without raising taxes on North Carolinians.”

McHenry has received an “A” rating from NTU each of his four years in Congress. He has never voted for a tax increase, and has pledged that he never will. McHenry’s opponent, liberal trial lawyer Daniel Johnson, will not rule out tax increases on the middle-class or on small businesses. Johnson even called a pledge not to raise taxes “a gimmick.”

“Western North Carolina has been hit hard by lost jobs. The last thing our folks need is another liberal politician who will raise our taxes,” said Rebecca Yount, campaign manager for McHenry for Congress. “We proudly accept the endorsement of NTU, and their recognition of Congressman McHenry’s pro-growth policies.”

NTU, with 362,000 members, joins a long and growing list of individuals and organizations who back McHenry’s re-election to Congress. They include:
