HICKORY, Oct 23, 2008 -

HICKORY – The McHenry for Congress campaign today called on Daniel Johnson to denounce Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank’s declaration that he intends to increase taxes in the next Congress. Congressman Frank is the Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and has given $2,000 in campaign money to Daniel Johnson.

In an interview Monday on CNBC’s Closing Bell, Frank said, “I think at this point there needs to be a focus on an immediate increase in spending…I believe later on there should be tax increases.”

“Raising taxes will only deepen this recession and drive up unemployment in Western North Carolina. Daniel Johnson should denounce Congressman’s Frank irresponsible tax increases and immediately sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge. Already struggling to make ends meet, the working families of Western North Carolina can not afford Johnson’s tax hikes,” stated campaign manager Rebecca Yount.

NOTE: Congressman McHenry signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge when he first ran for Congress in 2004 and has kept his word to never vote for a tax increase.
