Obama Insults Small Town America

Apr 28

Hickory, Apr 12, 2008 -

Dear Friends,

Earlier this week, before a group of California elites, Democrat Barack Obama ridiculed people like you and me from small towns across the country, saying:

“And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to their guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain the frustrations.”

This is outrageous! And it is yet another example of how out of touch liberals are with the common sense values of Western North Carolina.

We don’t cling to our guns out of fear – we use them to go hunting and to ensure our families are safe in times of need.

We don’t cling to our religion out of fear – we cling to our faith because it’s uplifting and guides our daily lives toward eternal salvation.

We don’t have antipathy to people who aren’t like us – we just don’t want know-it-all liberals telling us what to think or how to say it.

We don’t cling to anti-immigrant sentiment – our ancestors, too, came into this great country as immigrants. But they did it the right way – the legal way – and we expect others to do it the right way too.

We’re not afraid of trade – we have the best, smartest, and most ambitious workforce on the planet. But after NAFTA and CAFTA destroyed our manufacturing base, we hope you can understand why we’re concerned when Washington politicians start talking about making more trade deals without thinking about their affect on American workers.

Thank you, Senator Obama. Thank you for once again reminding us that liberals only say what they really believe when they think the rest of us aren’t listening. We hear you loud and clear.

God Bless,

Congressman Patrick McHenry
