Congressman Will Provide American Flags for Classrooms

Hickory, Oct 31, 2006 – Tenth District Congressman Patrick McHenry today announced a new program called “Stars & Stripes in Schools;” an initiative to provide American flags to teachers for classrooms that do not have one. “I had spoken with teachers who told me that some of their colleagues were not provided with flags for their classrooms and others had older, worn flags that needed to be replaced and I wanted to help,” explained Congressman McHenry.

The congressman purchased 500 American-made 18”x12” flags and will provide one for free to any Tenth District teacher who requests one. Teachers should call Congressman McHenry’s campaign office at 828-441-2006 or email: Amanda@mchenryforcongress.com to request a flag.

“Learning about responsible citizenship and respect for our flag should be a part of every child’s education,” McHenry stated. “An American flag should be a visible part of each classroom and I’m glad to help accomplish that for schools in my district.”

Again, teachers should call 828-441-2006 or e-mail: Amanda@mchenryforcongress.com to request a flag for their classroom.
