Prominent Pro-life Group calls Congressman McHenry “a voice for the voiceless in the U.S. House”

Hickory, Sep 11, 2006 – Tenth District Congressman Patrick McHenry has received the endorsement of North Carolina Right to Life’s Political Action Committee. In a letter dated September 6th, N.C. Right to Life’s PAC Director Don Daugherty writes to Congressman McHenry: “We appreciate your commitment to upholding the sanctity of human life from conception…to natural death.” Daugherty continued, “North Carolina Right to Life Federal PAC is pleased to inform you that you have our endorsement in your reelection bid to represent North Carolina’s Congressional District 10.”

Congressman McHenry expressed his gratitude to the group for both their support and their continued work on behalf of a culture of life, “I am honored to have the support of North Carolina Right to Life and I want to thank them for all they do to defend those who are most vulnerable in our society: the unborn, the elderly and the disabled.”

McHenry has been a stalwart pro-life advocate in Congress, having supported a number of bills aimed at reducing abortions and a ban on human cloning. The congressman also opposed a bill that would allow the destruction of human embryos for scientific research. This bill, the so-called “Stem-cell Research Enhancement Act,” was vetoed by President Bush. Congressman McHenry voted to uphold the President’s veto saying, “The government has no business funding research that ends life while carrying the banner of scientific progress – this is not progress; it’s a breakdown in medical ethics.”

“For decades, our elected officials have shown a reckless disregard to the right to life and today’s leaders have a responsibility to work to reverse this destructive trend,” Congressman McHenry stated. “I look toward the day when we can look back at Roe vs. Wade as a tragic and sorrowful episode in our nation’s history and I will not rest until it has been reversed, rejected and relegated to history.”
